So I’ve got a question. What is worth? How do we decide if something is of worth? Or even, if someone is of worth?
Is it that if you can contribute to society then you have some worth? Is that true worth? Because if so, as soon as you were found, you can be replaced by someone else. Or, is worth something that is only given by the time that you give?
A mountain is great at being a mountain, its contribution to this earth is great. It has a worth, right? So does that mean that because a mountain is more stable, longer lasting and constant, has more worth than you?
What is worth?.
– “the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated.”
– “the amount that could be achieved or produced in a specified time.”
– “sufficiently good, important, or interesting to be treated or regarded in the way specified.”
In all of these answers from Google sum up the idea that you have to be good at something, you have give something up, you have to be good enough to be of worth. But what about all the people in the world who don’t feel they are good enough yet have great skills and therefore don’t live to their full potential? Or even the ones who are just OK at a lot of things. has their worth decreased?
The world implies it encourages us to find our worth, to express who we are, to try new things. But really does it not just limit that? You can express your opinions as long as it doesn’t over rule what others say. You can try new things but just not too many things, you can’t be too good at everything. Go and find who you are but you must live this way first until you think that is who you are. The reason I am writing this blog post is due to a specific lecture I have for two hours every week. It’s starting to open my eyes as to how broken and manipulative this world is. ‘We should have some worth but just as long as it isn’t more than the people at the top.’ And so many people just live every day by this rule and don’t even realise! Who are they to determined your worth? Who are we to say someone is of less worth because they don’t live the same way? Think the same, do what we do.
Everyone has worth, regardless of their abilities. Everyone is “fearfuly and woderfuly made” – Psalm 139:14. We are made in the image of God, we are children of God, we are citizens of Heaven!
These things are not based on how good we are, how creative, how polite, how talented we are. They just are. They true regardless of who we are and what we do. We automatically have a worth by just being alive. Maybe we should start living like we know it.
Start living like it’s true.
